The European Commission has confirmed that airlines must operate within an emissions cap from 2012 in order to boost air quality across the continent.
Chiefs at the authority made the announcement after air monitoring results from 2004 to 2006 were published.

Gateshead College and One North East announce the creation of a unique new open-access test track facility that confirms the North East’s leading position for research, development and training in the low carbon vehicle sector.
The test track and workshop building at Nissan Sunderland Plant has been signed over to Gateshead College on a 20-year lease
Major Line Closure 12 March to 3 April 2011 Byker to Tynemouth
Metro plans to keep passengers moving during closure.
Tyne and Wear Metro release details of the frequent, high quality bus service and special trains it will provide during a Major Line Closure next month.
Metro is undergoing extensive modernisation work which will see services between Byker and Tynemouth stations suspended between Saturday 12th March and Sunday 3rd
