Launch of Travel Matters!

Posted: November 5th, 2010 - Category: Gateshead News

Yesterday, Gateshead Council School Travel Planners Siobhan Bowery and Terry Fay launched their new website “Travel Matters” at the Sage on Gateshead Quays.

Travel Matters is a brand new website dedicated to sustainable travel, with a particular emphasis on the school journey.  It will help Key Stage 2 teachers to promote walking, cycling and use of public transport and highlight the link between regular use of these modes and improvements to health and fitness and the environment.

The dedicated Teachers’ Section of the site provides attractive, contemporary and stimulating lesson plans which have been designed to complement the curriculum and help teachers convey the sustainability message in the classroom.  A specially designed Pupils’ Centre provides age-appropriate games and competitions.

The site was partly funded by  the Be Air Aware campaign and we are so pleased to be able to get behind such a great project. The teachers section is free to Gateshead Schools and available to Local Authorities all over the country for a small subscription fee.

To check out the site visit www.travelmatters.org.uk where there are activities accesible to all children along with an option to trial the subscription resources available.
